Murray and Maree Hocking purchased Awamoa Bins & Skips from Les Gillespie nearly 10 years ago. Murray is originally from Goodwood near Palmerston. Murray has spent much of his working life around motor vehicle machinery. He has owned a garage and service station and drove logging trucks around Naesby in Central Otago for some years. When Murray and Maree purchased Awamoa Bins & Skips they had 300 customers and one and a half staff. They now have 6 trucks and 5 fulltime staff.

Waitaki District Council
The council supply households with a black plastic bag for which they charge the ratepayers $66 each per annum. A recent survey found that only 17% of households used the black plastic bags and the council are considering stopping the use of the bags and handing all the rubbish collection and recycling over to private contractors.
