Pete Walsh was born in Oamaru and attended Waitaki Boys High School. After leaving school and worked as a store man for Hesselwoods Auto Electrical. Pete completed his engineering apprenticeship with A & T Burts in 1975 and then worked for industrial Fibre Glass. He Drove trucks and did carpentry work for John R Bishop Earthmovers. He was several years with Oamaru shingle supplies doing plant maintenance and fabrication work.. In 2003 he saw an opening in Oamaru for a mobile engineer so he bought a Datson truck and a welding and gas plant. His business grew rapidly and he bought a Nissan Atlas 150 for more room.

Much of his work is done on Dairy Farms maintaining sheds and cow yards. He also makes steel portals for houses and sheds.

Crushing plant maintenance is another job he does and he has set up 2 concrete block factories and installed the machinery. Although he started out as a mobile engineer in 2008 he built a workshop in 3 Orwell Street Oamaru and 50% of his work is now done in the workshop. His son Alan now works for him as a subcontractor.
